Travel + Leisure Magazine asked their readers to cast votes in T+L’s 16th Annual World’s Best Island survey. The results (Listed below) reveal one universal truth:  a predilection for islands with astonishing natural beauty.

No. 1   ~   Santorini, Greece

No. 2   ~   Bali, Indonesia

"Lapped by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, Bali is but one of 17,500 islands in the Indonesian archipelago, yet even among its colorful neighbors — and even after decades of tourism development — it stands alone in its lushness and incomparable beauty. Perhaps that’s the reason it’s been ranked the No. 1 island in Asia every year since 1998."

No. 3   ~   Cape Breton, Canada
No. 4   ~   Boracay, Philippines
No. 5   ~   Great Barrier Reef, Australia
No. 6   ~   Sicily, Italy

TESTIMONIALS FOR SUZI O’s “BALI ADVENTURE”

“My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our Bali Adventure. This was my first experience outside America, and I really appreciate all the effort Suzi put into the preparation and organization. From the moment we stepped off the plane, everything was taken care of. We didn't have to make any reservations except for our "Free Days" and were able to relax and bask in the interesting sites and sights. Every place we went was amazing and beautiful.

Suzi O is a really professional and fun tour guide, and Putu, our fabulous driver, made the Adventure even more rewarding. We learned much more about the Balinese people and culture than I thought we would. The trip was not only totally enjoyable, it was also educational and enlightening.

The one place I really looked forward to seeing the most was Tanah Lot, and I was not disappointed in any way. It was interesting to take part in a personal blessing from a priest at the beach temple, and simply walking around the sacred area was awesome.

Suzi treated me to my first ever massage ~ and it was totally fantastic. She gifted us with several other items that all proved to be welcom
e additions for our comfort.

Here's a picture of me in my full temple garb. I wore it to show respect to the Balinese people at their temples. I don't know
how often I'll dress like this at home, but if I go back to Bali, I'll be prepared.

"For a long time my husband, Gary, and I had thought about taking a vacation to an exotic location. We had many of the same trepidations others have when considering visiting a foreign locale:  we don’t speak the language, whom will we know to trust for accurate and safe information and guidance? How will we understand the monetary system? What will we really want to see, and what to avoid? These questions were all smoothly addressed and taken care of by our wonderful guide, and friend, Suzi Osborn.

Suzi let us know what we should consider when looking for our transportation needs: hints about passports, fees to plan for, and other items to consider. These were all very helpful, as traveling outside the States involves aspects we would not have otherwise known to even check out. The fact that she had everything answered and ready to rock in advance was fabulous!

Suzi and Putu (who is most probably one of the finest drivers in the country) met us at the airport, where we already knew what entry procedures to expect thanks to Suzi’s detailed emails.

We then journeyed to the Ubud Inn (pronounced, “Oo-bood,” not, “U-bud”). The Inn has a number of buildings in a botanical garden/rainforest setting. Our accommodation had a relaxing porch, a large bedroom with high ceiling, an extremely comfortable canopy bed, a refrigerator, and a spacious bathroom with ‘Western’ style plumbing ~ a BIG plus in my book! We had breakfast every morning in the open dining area by the pool, and enjoyed the antics of, and feeding the resident fruit bat “Mangy” who lives a pretty cush existence there, considering he is disabled by a hole in his wing, and most likely would not survive in the wild. We were also ‘visited’ on a couple of occasions by some of the inhabitants of the Sacred Monkey Forest down the road from the Inn.

Our trip was a delightful mix of learning and experiencing some of the more hidden aspects of life and culture in Bali:  learning about the spiritual side of Hindu life, the daily offerings, the celebrations, visits to temples, and how to demonstrate our respect for the traditions.

We were also treated to lunch with Putu and his family at their residence, which is referred to as a ‘compound’ in Bali; certainly a fond memory of our time there, and one most tourists never experience. Other days had visits to artisans workshops, general shopping expeditions, trips to sacred sites, and several enchanting dance/theater performances.

We also had a couple of  ‘free days’ where we were able to either go on side trips or just enjoy the quiet peacefulness of the Ubud Inn. Suzi always made sure we knew that she was flexible, and would help us find what we might be wanting, and that we could change our itinerary if needed. One of the highlights of our trip was the visit to the Elephant Safari Park and being able to meet and ride the elephants. It also hosted one of the finest dinners I have had anywhere.

Our trip was incredible. We felt safe, secure, and had the company of our guide, one of the warmest people on the planet, Susan Osborn. If there was anything more to ask for, I can’t imagine what it would be.
"

Most Sincerely, Lisa Church, Anchorage, AK

“My Bali Adventure with Suzi O was wonderful. Every day brought new surprises, sights and sounds ~ I loved it all. Her attention to detail was very appreciated ~ all I had to do was show up and everything was already taken care of.

The detailed email messages she sent before the Adventure began were extremely beneficial, and were a good part of the value of the trip. We saw everything she promised, and then some.

We laughed our way through Bali. The shopping was beyond my wildest dreams, the very inexpensive spa treatments were heavenly, the ancient sites were breathtaking, plus Suzi had several surprises that were really fun. I loved all the dance performances ~ and it was a nice bonus to meet the some of the performers after the shows.

The Ubud Inn & Spa, while not being a 5-star hotel like I'm used to, is charming, clean and very comfortable ~ and the staff treated me like a treasured family member.

I highly recommend this Bali Adventure for anyone wishing to see the ‘real’ Bali and meet some of the warmest people in the world.”
